A two week holiday in KL, Penang and Langkawi. Great weather, great food and lovely people. I was amazed at Malaysians love of plants. Every house and restaurant no matter how humble had plants growing in pots. Plenty of flowering Bougainvillea

everywhere especially Cloud trees. Small front gardens, urban spaces. nature strips, planted areas in the middle of roads and freeways. The cost of constant maintainance over there is much cheaper than in Australia! Many people doing small jobs!

My Favourite restaurant Ferringhi Garden in Penang
Solanum mammosum canes with the yellow fruit at the entrance with small yellow Chrysanthemum for Chinese new year. Large alfresco eating areas with plants everywhere. Check out the row of Hydrangea in their lovely inside formal dinning Yes Hydrangea!

Chinese New Year
Most restaurants and Hotels were displaying cumquats with fruit ripening a sign of good luck.Fruits must still be green to ripen later. This represents the wish that wealth will come to you now and in the future. Future prosperity for the family. Some cumquats were also covered in small red envelopes that can be taken off an money is put in and given to children and un married people for good future luck. The color red is seen every where and worn to ward off evil |
