An elegant looking plant from the family Magnoliaceae. It has an upright habit and dense narrow foliage with bushy branches. Leaves are a glossy, deep green colour with a rusty-brown covering of fine hairs on the underside. During summer, large white lemon-scented flowers are produced.
Evergreen, upright form of Magnolia grandiflora. Once established, this plant will endure heat and low levels of frost. Grows optimally in full sun, however, will tolerate partial shade. Prefers moist, well-drained soils which are slightly acidic. Once established, requires only occasional watering in times of drought. To maintain slender and upright shape of plant, we recommend minimal pruning, which can be conducted in spring and summer. We suggest using a slow release fertiliser in the first few years after transplanting.
This form of evergreen Magnolia naturally grows tall, compact and upright, therefore it is great for hedging and lends itself to minimal clipping to create, large formal cones. Large cones in a formal garden design can be a starting point to give the garden wonderful structure. An excellent combination when planted with Buxus or Lillypilly clipped balls.
