Acmena smithii minor 'Forest Flame' Ball
A very compact form of Acmena smithii that can easily be kept pruned under 1m. Glossy fine green foliage with attractive bright red new growth, and if kept regularly trimmed will not produce berries.
Cultural
Prefers a full sun or part shade position for best results. Can be kept trimmed to the desired height and width and cut back quite hard to maintain its size. Regular trimming will produce more colourful new growth and keep the plant bushy. Will tolerate dry conditions once established and is reasonably frost tolerant. For best results fertilise with a slow release fertiliser in Spring. Like all the other forms of Acmena smithii this plant will not get leaf damage from psyllids.
Landscape Uses
Topiary balls are ideal for formal gardens or modern Japanese gardens, though can add structure to any garden. They are great planted in clusters, or used in pots to frame an entrance or walkway. The Forest Flame has attractive new red lush foliage.
