Pyrus nivalis is an erect deciduous tree which has silvery-green slightly glaucous foliage. Small, showy white flowers are produced in abundance during spring. Our Pyrus are grafted for optimal growing performance.

Thrives in a full sun position though will still grow well in part shade, is adaptable to most soil conditions including dry and intermittently wet soils. Adequate moisture in the first year is necessary to ensure that the tree will establish, though once established they are drought tolerant. Fertiliser during spring and prune in winter if required. When planting grafted stock ensure the graft is at least 7cm above soil level, if planted below soil level this can cause fungal and/or root issues.

Landscape Uses

Pyrus nivalis make ideal specimen trees or nature strip plantings. Great for long driveways or avenues. The fruit may also be used to make pear cider.
