Ficus carica 'Black Genoa' (Fig)
A fast growing, medium sized deciduous tree ‘Black Genoa’ produces an abundance of delicious dark red fleshed fruit with purple-green coloured skin in summer. Leaves are large, palmate in shape and medium to light green in colour.
Cultural
Ficus ‘Black Genoa‘ is a high-yielding cultivar that will often bear two crops. Harvest fruit when it is a deep purple colour and soft to touch. Frost tolerant once established.

Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil.

Maintenance:
Prune lightly in winter to stimulate new growth for fruiting or to remove old or damaged growth. Fertilise in spring to promote healthy growth. Will benefit from annual application of mulch in spring.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established but fruiting will benefit from supplementary watering. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Summer and autumn fruiting.
Landscape Uses
Fantastic as a feature tree, or paired with other edibles. Is a staple of any Mediterranean style or edible garden. A delicious fig is best eaten still warm from the tree in summer with soft cheeses or made into paste or jam.
