‘Nijisseiki’ is the most common variety of Nashi pear grown in Australia; it produces medium sized round fruit with greenish yellow skin and crisp white juicy flesh. It has a mild flavour and smooth texture with good housekeeping qualities or can be eaten fresh. Harvest in March. Is partially self-fertile. Suggested pollinators include ‘Chojuro’. Our Pyrus are grafted for optimal growing performance.
Thrives in a full sun position though will still grow well in part shade, is adaptable to most soil conditions including dry and intermittently wet soils. Adequate moisture in the first year is necessary to ensure that the tree will establish, though once established they are drought tolerant. Fertiliser during spring and prune in winter if required. When planting grafted stock ensure the graft is at least 7cm above soil level, if planted below soil level this can cause fungal and/or root issues.
