Acacia aphylla
Acacia aphylla is a striking architectural shrub. It forms a complex network of leafless, glaucous-blue wiry stems giving it an eye-catching sculptural appearance. You would hardly know it was a wattle until individual golden-yellow wattle flowers bloom off the stems in winter-spring.
Cultural
Acacia aphylla is a fast-growing leafless wattle that handles dry conditions, frost and full sun. Naturally growing in rocky areas over sand, loam and clay soils, it is adaptable to most sunny positions provided there is good drainage. When grown in a pot, increase the pot size up by 1-2 sizes at the most when needed. Once in the largest desired pot size, top dress with fresh potting mix on top and under the root ball the soil level falls low.
Soil:
Grows in sandy, loam and clay-loam soil but requires good drainage. High quality native potting mix when grown in a pot.

Maintenance:
Giving it a light prune after flowering along with a feed of native fertiliser will encourage lots of fresh growth. Otherwise - prune out any dying branches if required and trim to form the desired shape.
Water Requirements:
Drought-hardy and enjoys growing drier conditions. Grows in areas with dry summers and wet winters, so will enjoy water throughout winter. When grown in pots, water once the top 5cm or so is dry.
Seasonal Interest:
Blue-grey wiry stems year-round, contrasted by golden-yellow flowers in winter to spring.
Landscape Uses
Fantastic as a small feature shrub placed in the middle of a garden bed. Can also be used as the taller plant in multi-planted pot displays or by itself in a cluster of pots. It’s great choice for sunny situations in pots where other plants might not thrive potted in hot, sunny and windy balconies or rooftops. Suits Australian native, Mediterranean and coastal garden styles.
