‘Desert Star’ is a compact, evergreen shrub valued for its star-shaped, crisp-white flowers that sit amongst its rounded, glossy-green leaves. These beautifully fragrant flowers are sometimes followed by red fruit.

Cultural

Tolerant of light frosts once established. Can produce small spines, take care when handling. CAUTION: Ripe fruit is edible, unripe fruit and sap is toxic.
Soil:
Tolerates any well-drained soil, suitable for poor soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune after flowering to maintain shape. Apply an all-purpose fertiliser in spring.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Spring to summer flowering.

Landscape Uses

Ideal for low hedging, borders and containers. Carissa 'Desert Star' is adaptable to a range of soil types and can tolerate coastal conditions. Responds well to pruning so can even be shaped into mounds.
