Murraya paniculata
Commonly known as Orange Jasmine or Mock Orange, Murraya paniculata is a dense evergreen shrub with lush, glossy foliage. The new growth emerges in a light green shade, while the mature leaves turn a rich dark green. In spring and summer, it produces small, fragrant white flowers.
Cultural
In colder climates, Murraya are best grown in a position sheltered from frost. They can become yellow if soil pH is too high. Murraya are considered a weed in warmer climates.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, acidic, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Responds well to regular pruning, do so at any time of year. Apply a general fertiliser in spring and autumn. Will benefit from a yearly application of mulch.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but will benefit from supplementary watering. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Spring and summer flowering.
Landscape Uses
Ideal for formal and informal hedges due to its dense foliage and ability to be shaped, its highly fragrant flowers also make it a great choice for planting near living areas or pathways. It thrives in Urban Lush environments when planted with Philodendron ‘Xanadu’ and Ligularia reniformis, or in formal landscapes with traditional favorites like Azalea ‘Alba Magnifica‘ and Camellia ‘Setsugekka‘.
