Acer x freemanii 'Autumn Blaze' Living Pergola
Popular trend in Europe where plants are trained to form a living canopy, providing natural shade.
Cultural
Top of plants are trained laterally to form the pergola. Upright stems either clipped off or tied down to a structure. Stems of plants are grown to 2.5-3m tall, allowing ample room to walk underneath. Once plants have grown and a pergola has formed, the supporting structure can be removed.
Landscape Uses
Ideal in civic community parks and garden areas, creating shaded seating for hot weather. Effective in restaurant and hotel courtyards, and also popular in domestic landscapes.
