Viburnum tinus
A hardy shrub with foliage that is dense with glossy dark green leaves, which acquire a purple hue during the colder months. Masses of pinkish-white flowers are prolific during winter and spring, highly fragrant and attracting birds and bees.
Cultural
Prefers a position in part shade to full sun and grows well in most soil types, provided they are well-drained. Prune after flowering to maintain its shape and promote a dense, compact habit. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth and encourage prolific flowering. Generally pest and disease resistant, it may occasionally be affected by aphids or scale—monitor regularly and treat promptly if needed.
Landscape Uses
Its dense, fast-growing habit makes it an excellent choice for both formal and informal hedging, as well as for shaping into clipped topiary. It also performs well in large pots, adding structure and greenery to courtyards or patios. The attractive blooms are ideal for cut flower arrangements, while the shrub's evergreen foliage makes it a beautiful backdrop in mixed garden beds year-round.
