Nandina domestica 'Moon Bay'
Fine, red to golden foliage, small fairly insignificant flowers followed by red berries in autumn. Foliage colour intensifies during winter or when grown in nutrient depleted soils. It has an upright, dense growth habit and is very hardy.
Cultural
Nandina ‘Moon Bay‘ is frost tolerant and can cope with mild coastal conditions. CAUTION: fruit is toxic to most animals.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil but can tolerate poorer soils.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain height if required. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established.
Seasonal Interest:
Year round foliage interest, spring to summer flowering, autumn to winter fruiting.
Landscape Uses
Perfect for low hedges, borders and rockeries. Very effective when mass planted. Great for oriental themed gardens, or to add a splash of colour. Looks great planted with Magnolia alba, Loropetalum ‘Plum Gorgeous‘ and Citrus.
