A compact, clump-forming perennial that produces spikes of crisp white flowers from summer to autumn.

Cultural

Salvia prefer loam to sandy soils but can tolerate clay soils if they have been amended with plenty of organic matter. They can tolerate some shade but flowering may be reduced.
Soil:
Tolerates any well drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Tip prune when young to encourage bushy plants. Deadhead regularly to promote continual flowering. In winter, cut the plant to the ground. Apply a general fertiliser in spring and late summer to promote healthy growth. Will benefit from a yearly application of compost and mulch.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established. Will benefit from occasional, deep watering during extended dry periods. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Summer-autumn flowering.

Landscape Uses

Salvia‘s work well in a meadow planting, or massed together in a garden bed. Can also be used as a pot specimen on balconies and in courtyards.
