Commonly known as the maidenhair tree, ‘Piedmont Pillar‘ is a tall, upright cultivar of Ginkgo. Its unique, lobed leaves change from a mid-green to golden yellow in autumn creating a golden carpet as they fall to the ground. Steeped in cultural history the Ginkgo is one of the oldest species of trees on the planet and is often referred to as a "living fossil" with some living samples over 2500 years old.

Cultural

Ginkgo‘s can tolerate light shade but performs better in full sun. Tolerant of frost, wind, and pollution. ‘Piedmont Pillar‘ is a male clone that won‘t produce fruit.
Soil:
Tolerates any well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Requires minimal pruning however dead, damaged, or poorly positioned branches can be removed in late winter or early spring. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring if plants lacks vigour. Will benefit from an annual application of mulch in spring.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established but will benefit from supplementary watering.
Seasonal Interest:
Autumn foliage colour.
