A lovely lilac aroma is produced from incredibly large, fluffy, mauve coloured flower heads, giving this plant its common name of Purple torch or Blue mist flower. The flowers appear on purple stems above velvety textured rich green leaves, with distinct venation. Bartlettina can provide both structure and whimsy to your garden project.

Cultural

Best grown in a partly shaded position protected from frost, it will not handle full sun and does have med-high water needs. Grow in moist well-draining, humus rich soil, mulch well. Prune after flowering if you'd like to maintain compact size.

Landscape Uses

A decorative plant for shady positions in the garden, Bartletina makes a good under storey plant for larger deciduous trees. It can be used to provide height as a feature plant in a cottage garden, as a tall informal hedge or pruned yearly to keep it as a medium shrub.
