Aimee Yoshiba‘ is prized for its large, creamy-white flowers that emit a strong, sweet fragrance, particularly in the evening. This fragrance is one of its most beloved features, described as intensely sweet and floral, often used in perfumery. Flowers typically emerge in spring to early autumn. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and oval-shaped, typically measuring around 5 to 10 cm in length.

Cultural

Gardenia are best grown in a position protected from strong winds and harsh afternoon sun in hotter climates.
Soil:
Prefers a slightly acidic, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune in late spring or early summer to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Apply a Gardenia-specific fertiliser during spring and summer. Will benefit from annual application of compost and mulch in spring. Susceptible to aphids, whitefly, and scale, treat accordingly.
Water Requirements:
Keep moist in the warmer months, water sparingly in winter. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Late spring to autumn flowering.
