Eucalyptus preissiana
Soil:
Prefers to be grown in sandy soil, growing well in coastal limestone areas too. Tolerant of other soils provided they are well-drained.

Maintenance:
Older plants can look tired and sparse after several years of heavy flowering. Eucalyptus preissiana can be cut back hard close to ground level. New growth will burst from the lignotuber at the base. The new growth can reach one metre high within a year, totally rejuvenating the plant. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape. Apply a native fertiliser in spring if plant lacks vigour. Monitor for caterpillar damage and treat accordingly.
Water Requirements:
Mildly drought tolerant once established. Excessive moisture or regular irrigation can cause fungal issues.
Seasonal Interest:
Winter to spring flowering, year round foliage interest.
