Pieris japonica 'Temple Bells'
An elegant slow growing evergreen shrub. New growth is a bronze-red colour, turning to an attractive glossy dark green when older. Clusters of light pink buds open to gorgeous white bell shaped flowers in winter.
Cultural
Prefers a partly shaded position sheltered from strong winds and harsh afternoon sun. It grows best in moist, well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Apply a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants in spring. Mulch annually to conserve moisture and maintain soil acidity. Deadhead spent flowers directly after flowering.
Landscape Uses
Perfect for use in shaded borders, foundation plantings, and as an understorey layer beneath larger trees. It works beautifully in Japanese inspired gardens and pairs well with other acid loving plants such as Camellias and Azaleas.
