Punica granatum (Pomegranate)
Small deciduous shrub with bright, glossy green leaves that turn yellow in Autumn. Scarlet flowers appear in Summer, followed by development of edible fruit in late Summer to early Spring.
Prefers a well-drained soil in a warm sunny position. Fertilise in early Autumn and late Spring for the first two years. Fertiliser not usually required in later years. Prune lightly in late Winter. Fruit may be harvested when colour develops to a deep red and makes a metallic sound when tapped.
Ideal for areas of the garden that may be prone to scorching. May be used for hedges, borders or containers.
