Magnolia soulangeana 'Burgundy Glow'
‘Burgundy Glow‘ is an enhanced variety of the ever-popular Magnolia x soulangeana. Growing into an attractive, upright, and spreading small tree, it features large, goblet-shaped flowers in dark purplish-pink and white. These fragrant blooms open in late winter to early spring, providing a striking display that heralds the arrival of warmer seasons. Our Magnolia ‘Burgundy Glow‘‘ are grafted for optimal growing performance.
Cultural
Deciduous Magnolias should be planted in a sheltered position to avoid damage from strong winds. They can tolerate part-shade positions but flowering may be reduced.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune in late summer or autumn to maintain shape or remove any damaged or diseased growth. Apply a general fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth. Will benefit from a yearly application of mulch in spring. Generally pest-free, but it‘s a good idea to monitor for common garden pests such as aphids and scale.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but performs better with adequate moisture. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Late winter to spring flowering.
Landscape Uses
Magnolia soulangeana ‘Burgundy Glow‘ is a spectacular feature plant, looking fantastic whether planted as a single specimen or incorporated into a garden setting. Its relatively compact size makes it ideal for courtyards and smaller gardens. With a non-invasive, shallow root system, it can be safely planted close to the home, providing excellent summer shade. It pairs beautifully with other winter and spring flowering favourites, such as Azaleas, Camellias, and Hellebores, creating a harmonious and colourful display.
