Osmanthus x fortunei
Characterised by serrated, dark green glossy leaves Osmanthus x fortunei is a wonderful medium sized shrub and can be planted to form a fragrant hedge. Its leaves are used in traditional Jasmin tea and its small perfumed flowers appear in spring.
Can be grown in full sun but can suffer leaf burn in extreme summer heat. Requires moderate water initially and is drought tolerant once established. Very adaptable to soil types if there is reasonable drainage. Moderately frost tolerant.
Can be used as a specimen plant when trimmed to maintain a dense shrub form. Well suited for pots. It makes a wonderful dense perfumed evergreen hedge with its sweet-scented flowers.
Can be kept to 1.0m high x 50m wide or left to grow to 3.0m high x 1.0m wide.
