A clump-forming, evergreen perennial with clusters of pristine white, bell shaped flowers which rise above the foliage in early spring on vertical stems. Its shiny, leathery foliage is green but will develop bronze tinges in winter.

Cultural

Bergenia are generally trouble free and adaptable to a range of conditions.
Soil:
Tolerates any well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to full shade.
Maintenance:
Remove old leaves and spent flowers to maintain tidy appearance. Can be divided every few years in autumn or spring to rejuvenate the plant. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring. Susceptible to snail and slug predation, apply baits as required.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established but will benefit from supplementary watering. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Spring flowering.
