Osmanthus fragrans
An evergreen upright shrub with small tubular beautifully perfumed, creamy yellow flowers. Fiery orange new growth matures to green foliage with a slightly serrated edge. The flowers can be used to make tea.
Cultural
Osmanthus fragrans are best grown in a position protected from harsh afternoon sun and frost.
Soil:
Tolerates any moist, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune after flowering to maintain size and shape. Apply a general fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth. Will benefit from a yearly application of mulch.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but will benefit from supplementary watering.
Seasonal Interest:
Late winter to summer flowering.
