Hiryu‘ is known for its large, semi-double flowers, which bloom from late winter to early spring. The blossoms are a deep, rich pink with a velvety texture, providing a striking contrast against the glossy, dark green foliage.

Cultural

A sun tolerant Camellia that can withstand light frost.
Soil:
Prefers a slightly acidic, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and to remove any dead or damaged growth. Be cautious of cutting off developing buds. Apply a Camellia-specific fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth. Susceptible to aphids, spider mites, and scale insects- treat as required.
Water Requirements:
Will not tolerate extended dry periods, ensure adequate watering.
Seasonal Interest:
Autumn to winter flowering.
