Miscanthus transmorrisonensis
Miscanthus transmorrisonensis features narrow, elongated leaves that arch gracefully outward from the centre of the clump. The leaves have a fine, delicate texture and are green with a subtle silvery or golden sheen, creating a soft, flowing effect in the garden. In late summer to autumn, it produces feathery, plume-like flower heads that are typically silver or pale pink, rising above the foliage and adding a light, airy texture. As the season progresses, the foliage turns a warm, golden brown, enhancing the plant‘s visual appeal throughout the year.
Cultural
Miscanthus are a low-maintenance perennial grass that are tolerant of drought and frost. They can cope with part shade positions but this may reduce flowering.
Soil:
Tolerates any well-drained soil, suitable for poor soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Cut foliage to ground level in late winter or early spring to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage new growth. Miscanthus have low nutrient needs so it‘s best to feed with an organic, liquid fertiliser in spring or simply an annual application of compost.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established but will benefit from supplementary watering. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Summer to autumn flowering, seed heads provide winter interest.
Landscape Uses
Create a dramatic effect with mass planting, using it to form attractive grassy swathes or define different areas of the garden. Its refined, arching foliage makes it an excellent choice for edging garden beds or pathways. Additionally, its drought tolerance makes it well-suited for low-water or dry gardens, where it can thrive with minimal irrigation.
