An medium sized shrub, with a graceful fern like lime green foliage turning deep red in colder weather. Small white flowers in summer will become red berries into autumn and winter. Sommonly called Sacred Bamboo as branches can resemble bamboo canes with diamond shaped leaflets.

Cultural

Nandina domestica can tolerate full shade but flowering and foliage colour will be diminished. CAUTION: fruit is toxic to most animals.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil but can tolerate poorer soils.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
If required, prune after flowering or in spring to maintain height. Remove older canes in late winter to allow for new growth. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring. Will benefit from a yearly application of mulch in autumn.
Water Requirements:
Drought tolerant once established.
Seasonal Interest:
Year round foliage interest, spring to summer flowering, autumn to winter fruiting.

A spectacular plant for ornamental containers with its stunning foliage. Ideal for mid-sized screening particularly in narrow spaces. Extremely hardy.
