Acmena smithii 'Select'
A dense, fast-growing Australian native shrub, Acmena smithii ‘Select’ is chosen for its larger foliage and for producing minimal berries, making it a clean, low-mess option for residential landscapes. The lush mid-green leaves are complemented by attractive flushes of bronze to reddish new growth. This psyllid-resistant cultivar has a naturally upright, narrow habit, perfect for tight spaces while maintaining a formal appearance. Small white summer flowers may appear, followed by only very minimal fruiting.
Cultural
Acmena are rarely troubled by pest and disease and are psyllid resistant.
Soil:
Tolerates any well-drained soil.

Landscape Uses
An excellent choice for hedges and screens, particularly where a clean, low-berry cultivar is desirable. Its adaptability makes it ideal for poolsides, where trunks can be pleached to meet non-climbable zone requirements. The dense deep-green foliage also provides an effective backdrop for other plants and performs well in large containers or when clipped into topiary forms.
