A graceful Japanese forest grass with fine, arching green foliage that develops rich red and burgundy tones through autumn. Its soft, cascading habit adds movement and texture, particularly in shaded parts of the garden.

Cultural

Cold tolerant and suitable for cool to temperate climates. Fully frost hardy; foliage dies back in winter and reshoots in spring.
Soil:
Moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Performs best in soils that do not dry out completely.
Aspect:
Best grown in part shade to shade. Tolerates some morning sun, which can help enhance autumn colour, but avoid harsh afternoon sun, especially in warmer climates.
Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Mulch annually to retain moisture and improve soil quality.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment and during dry periods. Consistent moisture is important, particularly in warmer months.
Seasonal Interest:
Colourful seasonal foliage

Landscape Uses

Ideal for shade gardens, woodland plantings, borders, mass plantings, and under trees or shrubs. Also works beautifully in large containers where foliage movement can be appreciated.
