MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Here in the Woodland Garden we have used a diverse collection of shade loving plants under a canopy of Ginkgo biloba ‘Piedmont Pillar’ (a fairly new release).  Rather than just one tree we have used a number of trees to create the atmosphere of a woodland.

How much better to plant a copse of trees in our gardens rather than just one or two in a straight line. There are so many species that look so wonderful when planted in informal groupings.

The variety of understorey species that grow naturally in woodland environments is almost unlimited and here are a few that we have included in the Woodland garden:  Ligularia,  Hedychium, Cardamon, Ligularia, Ajuga, Fatsia, Rhaphiolepis and Heuchera.
