Large palm-like, shiny leaves cover this tropical looking, evergreen shrub. Fantastic indoor plant and a super performer in the shade. In autumn expect small white flowers in round clusters, followed by black berries.

Cultural

Protect Fatsia from strong winds and harsh afternoon sun. Moderately frost tolerant once established. Can be weedy in some areas, remove fruit to prevent dispersal.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun (morning) to full shade.
Maintenance:
Remove spent leaves as required, either by pruning or snapping them off the main stem. Can be cut back in spring to improve shape if required. Apply a liquid fertiliser throughout spring and summer to promote healthy growth. Will benefit from annual application of mulch in spring.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but performs better with adequate moisture.
Seasonal Interest:
Autumn flowering, year round foliage interest.

Landscape Uses

Striking foliage makes Fatsia japonica a focal point. Can be grown as a decorative backdrop to smaller plantings and works well in pots.
