Viburnum suspensum
A hardy evergreen shrub ideal for hedging. Blooms with small fragrant white flowers with a faint rose tint in spring, followed by decorative orange berries.
Cultural
Prune right after flowering to avoid fruit production. Tolerant of salt spray and frost.
Soil:
Prefers a fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil.
Aspect:
Full sun to part shade.
Maintenance:
Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape, or to remove any dead or damaged branches. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth. Will benefit for a yearly application of mulch to help with water retention.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but performs better with adequate moisture.
Seasonal Interest:
Spring flowering, autumn fruiting.
Landscape Uses
Great for hedging and borders but will also make a wonderful feature shrub with its deep green glossy foliage and fragrant flowers. When trimmed, attractive compact form works well in containers.
