Acmena smithii 'Purple Rain' pbr
A dense, fast-growing Australian native shrub with striking deep purple to burgundy new growth that gradually matures to rich green foliage. Small white flowers appear in summer, followed by dark purple berries that attract pollinating birds and insects to your garden.
Cultural
Thrives in a full sun to partial shade position, it tolerates most soil types but grows best in well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring promotes healthy growth and foliage color. Adequate watering during establishment is crucial; once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant. Prune to shape as needed, except during extreme weather conditions. Like other forms of Acmena smithii, it is resistant to psyllid damage.
Landscape Uses
Its dense foliage and compact growth habit make it ideal for hedges, screens, and privacy barriers. Additionally, its attractive foliage and colorful berries serve as an appealing specimen plant in gardens.
