Schizophragma hydrangeoides
Commonly known as the Japanese Hydrangea Vine, this deciduous climbing plant features heart-shaped, deep green leaves that create a lush, textured backdrop. In summer, large, flat clusters of creamy white flowers appear, each surrounded by showy, petal-like bracts that create a lacecap effect. These bracts may develop a subtle pink tinge as they mature. The vine clings to surfaces using aerial rootlets, making it ideal for covering walls, fences, or tree trunks. In autumn, its foliage turns a golden-yellow, adding seasonal interest.

Will tolerate dry periods once established but performs better with adequate moisture. Will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Seasonal Interest:
Late spring to early summer flowering, autumn foliage colour.
Landscape Uses
An excellent choice for covering walls, fences, pergolas, or tree trunks, adding a lush, textured backdrop to shaded gardens. Its self-clinging habit makes it ideal for creating a natural green screen, enhancing privacy and softening harsh structures. The delicate, lacecap-like flowers provide seasonal interest, making it a beautiful feature in woodland gardens, courtyards, or shaded patios.
