Podocarpus ‘Mood Ring’ is an underrated tough performing plant, perfect for a medium sized hedge. ‘Mood Ring’ grows tall and slim with bright red new growth aging to deep green.
Cultural
Podocarpus 'Mood Ring' is a very tough and hardy plant. Tolerant of Full sun, shade, heat and frost.
Soil:
Good drainage preferred.
Aspect:
Tolerant of most positions, perfect for a spot which is shady during winter but full sun in summer.
Maintenance:
Apply a general fertiliser in spring and autumn to promote healthy growth. If planted as a hedge, trim after each flush of new growth to promote density from bottom to top of the hedge.
Water Requirements:
Tolerant of dry once established, will benefit from extra water during hot and dry periods
Seasonal Interest:
Red new growth in autumn/winter.
Landscape Uses
Podocarpus 'Mood Ring' has an upright narrow form and slower growth making it a manageable, non-intrusive and relatively low maintenance hedge compared to more vigorous growing options like Syzygium, Waterhousea and Acmena.
