Pachysandra terminalis
Commonly called Japanese Spurge, this durable, eye-catching groundcover. Whilst it produces dainty spikes of white flowers, it is reverred for its gently lobed, deep-green leaves that add texture to the garden.
Cultural
Pachysandra is best grown in shaded positions as foliage can yellow in the sun. Tolerant of frost but is sensitive to high humidity. Pachysandra spreads easily via underground runners.
Soil:
Prefers an acidic, well-drained soil but can tolerate most soils.
Aspect:
Part shade to full shade.
Maintenance:
Prune old or damaged stems to the ground to maintain appearance, deadhead as required. Can be divided in late winter. Apply a general fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth.
Water Requirements:
Will tolerate dry periods once established but will benefit from supplementary watering.
Seasonal Interest:
Spring flowering, year round foliage interest.
Landscape Uses
A fantastic solution when you need a deep green and glossy dense groundcoverto brighten up a shaded area. Vigorous growth habit means quick cover and a dense carpet of green. Not suitable for traffic areas, but an ideal decorative cover with its white flowers in spring. Plant en mass for full effect.
